God is good!

Yesterday we were downstairs and had just finished school.  I heard Cameron say, "Let's hide from Mom!"  Aubrey replied, "I think she already knows," since we were all together in the big room in the basement.  The next thing I know I hear a crash and know right away that it's the ping-pong table.  I run to the other side of the basement and find Cameron lying flat on his back between the two sides of the ping-pong table. I screamed, "Cameron, are you okay?  Cameron, answer me!  Do I need to call an ambulance?" (Like he could know if I should, and if I truly should, he wouldn't be able to answer me anyway) I picked up the top of the table and he was just lying there, not crying, not answering me, NOTHING!  I pulled him into my arms and he just barely had his eyes open and had tears streaming down his cheeks.  I asked him how old he was, he said three.  I told him he wasn't three, Lauren was three.  Then I asked what he had for breakfast, he said he didn't know.  I told myself I had to calm down and figure out what to do.  At first he wouldn't put weight on his legs, he was just limp.  I picked him up and carried him into the other room where the phone is.  I picked up the phone not knowing whether I should call 911 or Ryan.  I decided that I should call Ryan.  He didn't answer his cell so I called his work number.  It was a miracle that he was the one to answer the phone (he never answers the work phone).  All this time I was still asking Cameron questions but now his answers were starting to make sense and be correct.  Ryan and I decided that I would call the doctor's office and see what they thought.  The nurse said we didn't have to come in, but to watch for excessive tiredness and vomiting.  Well, at this point, not 10 minutes after the crash, Cameron was already almost falling asleep (this was around noon, before lunch when my busy boy would never normally sleep).  I took him upstairs, called my mom and started fixing lunch.  He just sat at the counter and was almost nodding off.  I tried to entice him with food, but he wasn't interested.  Another God moment, my dad stopped by to eat his lunch.  I met him at the door and started bawling.  I was so thankful that he was there, that someone was there to help me determine if my boy was okay.  Cameron wanted to lay down, so I let him sleep and just decided to keep waking him to make sure he was with it.  Before my dad left, I woke Cameron and he smiled at my dad, then he went back to sleep.  I woke him again a little while later and this time he was complaining of a stomach ache, so I got a bucket.  Meanwhile I was thinking, these are the two signs the nurse said to watch for, now what?  He was so uncomfortable, but there was nothing I could do besides pray, which I did plenty of.  He finally went back to sleep and then around 3:15 he woke up to go to the bathroom and then he came into my room and asked to play computer!  Praise the Lord!  We even went for a walk later and, after Ryan came home, he was back to being a crazy, energy-filled 6 year old.  What a relief!

I know things like this happen all the time and that's part of life, but it was a very scary day for me.  It brought a reality check to me that these kids are not mine, they belong to God.  Also, it made me realize how blessed I am to have people in my life that are there for me and pray with me and support me.  I'm so thankful that Cameron is fine and that God brought us through this!

I've included a picture of the ping-pong table because it's hard to describe.  He was lying in the triangle part, with his head at the tip, where the two sides are touching.

Minnesota Fun

We had a good trip to Minnesota to visit our friends and for Ryan to work.  Stephanie and her kids got to stay with us at the motel so we got to spend lots of time with them.  The kids had so much fun together, especially in the swimming pool.  I bought floaties for Lauren and she did a wonderful job of "swimming" on her own. I was very proud of the kids and realized when we were on our way home that they had only had a few squabbles the whole time we were gone!

Lauren all decked out for the pool.  She is so funny with the goggles because she insisted on wearing them, but didn't even put her face in the water.

Cameron and his creation at the Children's Museum

They have face paint at the Children's Museum for the kids to paint their own faces.  Cameron passed on this, but Lauren and Aubrey both wanted their faces painted.  I painted both of theirs, but then Aubrey did her other check by herself.

What a cute turtle!

After we enjoyed Shamrock shakes we were ready to go back to the museum, who knew that we could spend so much time there-5 1/2 hours!

All the kids minus Moriah: Josiah, Cameron, Hannah (on Ronald's head), Micah, Noah, Aubrey, Lauren
*Notice the face paint on the kids!

Aubrey took this picture of Stephanie and me (and little Moriah)

Weather in Iowa

Growing up in Iowa I've learned that the weather is so unpredictable.  It's funny how this winter has been so warm that we haven't been able to go sledding or build a snowman, but have played outside and gone for walks.  On Sunday afternoon it was snowing and actually fairly mild outside, so after supper we went outside to attempt to build a snowman.  Unfortunately, the snow was like powder, so our snowman didn't get built.  We did walk down to the park and had lots of fun there going down the slides at a break-neck pace.

I captured each one of them as they landed at the bottom of the slide because it was so hilarious to see how they shot right out of it!

Then yesterday and today the temps have been in the 50s and 60s, so we played outside yesterday and today we had school at the patio table.  What a little nice weather can do is amazing.  Yesterday the kids were skipping and jumping and I felt like joining them!  I love sunshine and mild temps.

The kids took this tent outside on the deck and are "camping." They have been content outside for well over an hour so I've been very productive inside.

*Notice the marks on Aubrey's face.  Yesterday she crashed on her scooter and really banged up her face.  From her forehead to her lip met the pavement and is banged up pretty good.  Her arm still hurts a little today and she can't wear her glasses because of the big scrap on her nose.  Thankfully her glasses are intact and so are her teeth.  She was complaining of them hurting, but there are no chips or loose teeth!
