Yesterday we continued our yearly tradition of making fall cookies. This year I thought I would be smart and double the batch because the kids never seemed to have much dough once I divided it into three sections. Well, for some reason, even though they've been asking for weeks to make these cookies, they weren't really into it and only cut out one time each. That meant that I rolled out and cut out a lot of cookies. I didn't take any pictures this year, probably since I was the one doing the work.
The sad thing about it this year was that I couldn't do my normal delivery of unfrosted cookies to my Grandpa Marner. He loved sugar cookies without frosting and in the last several years of his life Grandma wasn't well enough to bake so we would always share some of ours with him. Last year at this time we delivered the cookies. He wasn't feeling very well, but was happy to have the cookies. I do think he ate fewer of them than he had in the past, but he still enjoyed them. It's a bittersweet experience because I can't have the pleasure of taking him cookies and spending some time with him, but I know he's experiencing things in heaven right now that far outweigh the taste of my sugar cookies.
