Famiiy Camp

Last week we had the wonderful opportunity to go to family camp at Camp Forest Springs in Westboro, Wisconsin. We went with two other families who have attended family camp there for 5 years! They had talked it up to us, and it definitely lived up to our expectations. There were so many activities there that we didn't get to try everything, but that leaves things for next year!

One of the activities that we enjoyed was the nature programs.  One was a bog walk and the other was orienteering. On the bog walk we got to pick and eat raspberries and blueberries and we also got to pick hazelnuts and learn how bears love to eat them. I'd never been on a bog before and it was fun to walk on it, it literally felt like you were walking on a sponge.

We did the orienteering with all three families, boys vs. girls. It was challenging but fun to hike through the woods and find the treasure at each location.  I have to say, for the record, that the girls won!

The nature center had lots of "stuffed" animals

Lots of the activities that we did were just open all the time, so you could come and go as you wanted. Cameron and Ryan explored the sling shot and the rifles, but the guns were a bit to big for Cameron's arms, so he'll have to try that next year.

Each night after session was over, we had free time, so we enjoyed snacks by the lake!

We got the kids a camp shirt, so they were excited to wear them the next day while we were still at camp

We also went miniature golfing.  It was the first time we had ever taken the kids. Aubrey had fun, but it took her awhile to get the hang of it.  Cameron just dove right in and amazingly he got two holes-in-one! Lauren gave up on her club and just tried kicking the ball into the hole.

The kids loved the giant slip'n'slide. They would squirt the slide with dish soap and the hose. The kids just flew down the hill.  They explored many different ways of going down the slide to see which was the fastest.

Swimming at the beach was another huge hit. There was even a slide that went into the shallow end so the kids could do that without having to pass the swim test.

Here are all the kids posing by the camp sign.
And our family!

Our cabin was very nice and roomy. There were four bunk beds, so each kid got to sleep on their own bed. Of course they all wanted the top bunk.  Lauren did change her mind because, in her own words, she was a little nervous.

The great thing about the cabin was that the bathroom was two separate rooms with the sinks in the main part of the room, so it was very easy to get ready.

And the outside view of the cabin. The whole building actually contained four cabins, so we got to stay right with our friends.
